A Clockwork Orange Opening

A Clockwork Orange begins with a disorientating red and blue screen with synthesised classical music, this already sets the audience up for a twisted sort of film. It then cuts to a shot of Alex looking directly into the camera making eye contact with everyone, making it easy for each individual to make their own relationship with Alex. This contrasts the rest of the droogs as they all look away from the camera.  Alex is the first person we see and hear, he says "There was me, that is Alex" as he identifies himself as the main character. Alex is our guide as we are in an unfamiliar setting with strange dialects so we unconsciously gravitate towards him.
