Both of these films have been made in their unique style and way to portray different levels of realism when displaying poverty, violence and power one of these movies does this in and unrealistic way to make the movie generic and fun. But the other actually gives it a big feeling of a sense of realism to make sure that the movie is serious and actually has an emotional impact within the film while getting a very serious message across to the public.
First La Haine and this film really does want to get the message across about poverty, power and violence that is happening within France. It shows this right from the start within the real footage of the riots in France against the public in France and against the police. From the start the power the government has compared to the public is shown straight away because the public are fighting against the police with sticks and stones and with no armour while the police have full riot gear with shields tear gas and baton’s.  Also another thing is that the police are beating down on the public within this film with sometimes five of them onto one of the public dragging them on the ground showing that they are superior to the public. There is one very important shot in this opening scene and this is the shot where a Molotov hits the picture of the world this is to symbolise the realistic situation within France of the world actually burning in chaos. Also Poverty is portrayed within this section and this is because the public is dressed in clothes that are scriffy but realistic while the Police are dressed in high power and expensive equipment this shows that people that apart of the government have the most money and power  This opening sequence has a very big impact because this movie is intended for French audiences and this opening sequence reminds the audience of the tragic events that happened within France a few years back this means that the film is given a more realistic feel because it is based around an actual event that happened.

Were as City Of God is completely different within the feel of the film and this is because instead of  right from the start the film is given an actual comedic feel to it with a lot of children chasing a chicken around. While at the same time this does show poverty while on a cosmetic level and this is because. The children are all in clothes that do not fit them properly but this about as far as this movie goes to showing poverty and what I mean is that a lot of the things surrounding the themes of poverty are very cosmetic it never really goes in depth about how they got into poverty or any of the serious things that surround poverty like famine. But one thing they do show but only for a short amount of time is the lack of food they actually get and how desperate they get for food. This is shown at the start when the children chase the chicken because that is some of the only food they will actually get but again this is cosmetic as this never goes into depth in what the troubles are.
