The swinging sixties myth is that women started to have an uprise in society against men, but the film Get Carter breaks this myth. As it shows men oppressing women and using their physical strength to flaw women and dominate them sexually.
An example of men showing their dominance is in the opening scene where we're shown a room filled with Carter, the Fletcher brothers and Anna. They're all watching pornography where the women are getting dominated by the men, the Fletcher brothers are amused by this as they laugh at the images shown. As well as we get to see one of the Fletcher brothers starting to feel up Anna's leg through a tracking shot, showing that he's in control of her and is completely dominant. This is further emphasised through the same tracking shot. As she's framed in an uncomfortable angle, as she looks confined and trapped within the framing. Again showing the Fletcher brothers dominance over Anna. But later on through the same scene we're shown that Carter continues to look at Anna sensually and nothing more, showing that all he cares about is her appearance and to also have sex with her. Showing that men didn't care much about women and only wanted to have dominance over them, both physically and sexually.
Another scene that shows this is when Carter goes into Edna's house after it's been ransacked by Brunby's men going after Keith. Carter walks into the room where Edna is and is told to leave or she'll call the police. He says no she won't because he says that she's wearing "purple underwear" Carter then continues to rip off her clothing and then proceed to have sex. This shows that men take dominance even when threatened by women with the law. Carter resolves to dominating her through sexual acts and she complies with this and doesn't phone the police. Showing that men when threatened by women in any form will oppress women by physically dominating them through sex. When continuing into the next day Edna even offers to make him breakfast, again showing that the women within this time period would become obliged to serve and be ordered around by men.
