How does the way men are represented in Get Carter reflect the time in which it was made?
The men in Get Carter reflect the aftermath of the 'swinging sixties' and how they feared losing there authority in society. There power in 'their' patriarchal society was jeopardised when women in the sixties demanded equal rights. However, women are not portrayed as independent or confident in viewing their opinions throughout Get Carter and only serve the purpose of being erotic objects. The men have dominance and when the women are not obedient rely on their physical strength to gain control.
In the opening scene men are established as the one's in power. The first shot we view is Carter stood above the woman in the background, visibly making him appear more superior due to his higher level. The men are positioned around a television, watching women being abused/ exposed in a pornography.
