Madeline and Midge comparison

The scene at Ernie's restaurant begins with Scottie in a medium close-up shot before the camera tracks right back so that we see the whole room in which Madeline is sat in. This makes the spectators copy Scottie's gaze as he scans the room. In this shot Madeline has been made the most noticeable as she is the only blonde in the room and all the other diners are wearing dark, discrete colours whereas Madeline is wearing green and has her back out causing her to be viewed as an erotic object by the audience. From this shot, it is evident that Madeline connotes "to-be-looked-at-ness" which is an idea of Laura Mulvey's as part of her male gaze theory.
