Film Review-The Parent Trap

The Parent Trap (1998)
The story, directed by Nancy Meyers of twin girls who by accident meets at a summer camp after being separated at birth. Hallie Parker and Annie James (both played by Lindsay Lohan) hate each other to begin, by pulling pranks on each other however, then discovering that due to their physical similarities after a night spent together they both discover that they have the same birthday. As suspicions rise, the twins soon discover that they both have a part of a torn image of their parents, Nick Parker (Dennis Quaid) and Elizabeth James (Natasha Richardson). This leads to a series of events that cause excitement throughout the film which is the most important part of a movie.
This family suitable romantic-comedy is an excellent re-enactment of the 1961 movie, 'The Parent Trap' and based on the film, 'Lottie and Lisa' by Erich Kastner. The 1998 $92.1 Million box office draw was a huge success. Lindsay Lohan is the actress portraying these twin girls Hallie Parker and Annie James in which case Hallie lives with her father Nick Parker who is portrayed by Dennis Quaid and Annie lives with her mother Elizabeth James portrayed by Natasha Richardson. The movie shows family adventures, and takes us as an audience through a journey of excitement and problem solving of the parents finding out the truth.
Next,Nancy Meyers shows camera work of great quality for the time the film was actually made, along with the lighting throughout the film. The shots within this film are used effectively as they make us as an audience feel apart of the movie, almost as we are actually in it. The sound effects and music throughout the film is used to make the certain scene either sad, happy, full of tension etc, at in which case it was used to give the audience a certain type of emotion to feel during that scene. The performance of the actors is excellent through out the film, for Lindsay Lohan being only a young age of 11, she played both parts extremely well, with the accent change throughout the film. As for Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson as experienced actors their performances throughout the film were great as their on camera personalities suited the parts well.
The good things about this film is that the themes of it are somewhat relatable in some cases for example, Nick's soon to be wife is nasty to anyone who is in her way of marrying a rather wealthy, successful Nick, which somewhere around the world could be happening as part of their lives. Another thing is being separated from their father and mother for 11 years, which could be relatable for people who have not seen their parents for years... However the bad things about this films are that in my opinion it is unrealistic. I feel as if meeting a twin separated at birth and never knowing of their existence is just never going to happen realistically.  . Finally, 11 year old girls being so smart to actually switch places and go to different places pretending to be the other twin for a few weeks, just wouldn't happen... And to conclude, I would rate this film ****, due to it's efforts also enjoyment and I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves a good family comedy!
