The scene opens to a low angled close up, this makes the audience feel as though they are sitting next to Hubert so we feel close and can identify with him. The audience are shown some of what Hubert's room looks like in which we see various posters - one of these are of two US athletes who are American posing the black power symbol, another is Mohammed Ali the American boxer and the last is of the American singer Issac Hayes. This reinforces the idea that it the only way to escape the projects and to gain a better way of life is to be good at sports or be a musician.
Hubert's bedroom wallpaper is flowery which could suggest that he either shares a room or cannot afford to re decorate - this informs the audience about how hard it actually is to live in the projects without a regular income. We also see some African art on the walls which symbolises a surrogate culture implying that he is also rejecting the French culture.
When Hubert walks to his window we view the outside from his POV so we as an audience can see his environment as he does. Hubert see's a vast mix of non white people suggesting that he is most aware of his position in French society and he see's the projects as what they really are. We see Vinz and Sayid from the window and for the first time they are seen from afar
