How important are film franchises to Producers and
Audiences?

Film franchises are extremely important to producers and audiences because, they enable a lot of things to happen.
Firstly, for producers some of the world’s biggest film franchises will return to cinemas, and the studios are banking on audiences turning out in force. This signifies that if you have one successful film already, then it is almost certain you can guarantee that they will also have another successful film. Its also important because Hollywood studios (the land of making movies), love franchise films as they have built-in awareness with the audience meaning that the producers know what they want…

Next, how film franchises are important to producers and audiences is that when the film franchises work, they can be a license to print money. This is due to the fact that if you have a successful film then you can guarantee that the others can be a success, for example, Toy Story and how crazed globally, the world went when there was an announcement when Toy Story 3 was announced. This film franchise led to more films, short films, Video games, TV Shows, Theatrical Productions, Soundtracks and Theme Park Attractions. The films over all reached a staggering $1,981,308,709 worldwide. There is also set to be a Toy Story 4 made and released 15th June 2018.  As Toy Story have a massive fan base globally, ranging from Children to Adults, we can guarantee that Toy Story 4 will be a success due to the popular demand of the films anyway, as producer Lynda Obst says “In Hollywood, familiarity breeds success, not contempt”; Toy Story is Disney Pictures/Pixar, people will be familiar as Disney is literally everywhere around the world and has made an excessive valuable, intellectual acquired central to its strategy under Bob Iger, it’s chief executive,and in the past few years has recruited Marvel Studios,, which has produced many hits, and also Lucasfilm which has brought Iron Man, Captain America and Han Solo under the same roof as Mickey Mouse and Tinkerbell.
However, Franchise films are expensive to produce and market: budgets can range from $150 Million to more that $200 Million!! Which is why producers have to appeal to a global box office.



Horizontal Integration is the consolidation of holdings across multiple industries. Through the ownership of many different media outlets, conglomerates are able to sell the same product many times. The ultimate goal of Horizontal Integration is too create Synergy.

Synergy is the interaction of multiple elements to produce an effect greater than the sums of their individual parts. Studios  can take just one property, such as Toy Story and create several revenue streams: films, video games, toys, stage shows etc…
