Clockwork orange analysis

The scene in a Clockwork Orange where we see Alex and his droogs in the car speeding away from attacking another group of lads. We see them all in the car screaming and howling, this screaming and howling thats coming from the droogs gets quite downed when Alex's voice over, this shows that Kubrick wants his audience to align with Alex over his droogs as soon as Alex's voice over can be heard it becomes the main focus for the spectator. The camera then starts to zoom into Alex slightly whilst his voice over plays, again showing that Kubrick wants the spectator to align with Alex. We then get a point of view shot, from Alex as it's in the position of the driver. We then get cuts between Alex's point of view and a MCU shot of each droog, until we get a MCU of Alex, the camera starts to zoom into a CU, again with a voice over from Alex. This shows clear alignment being made between the spectator and Alex, as with this voice over and additional time spent with Alex's character we get to become more familiar with his character.

In this scene of a Clockwork orange, we see Alex and his Droogs ringing the doorbell of a couples home, we see that the women of the couple goes to answer the door, Alex tries to persuade the women to let him in to use a 'telephone' and she doesn't at first. Her partner shouts through to let them in, and she responds instantly and complies. This shows a very negative representation of women, as she obeys men (her partner) to do something she didn't want to, and in this case it was opening the front door. We then see Alex and his Droogs storm into the house, all wearing masks and then attack the couple of the house. When we do see Alex going to 'rape' the women out of the couple it cuts away, and entirely changes scene. This was done by Kubrick to keep the alignment between Alex and the spectator. As Kubrick wants to manipulate the spectator into siding with Alex.

In this scene in a Clockwork Orange we see Alex and his Droogs are trying to break into the yoga teachers house. When Alex breaks into her house, again we see that he's wearing a mask. Again trying to keep the alignment between the audience and Alex. When Alex does kill the yoga teacher, we don't actually see him do it, but it cuts away and shows us the pieces of art instead. Again Kubrick trying to manipulate the audience to align with Alex. We then see Alex exit the house wanting to escape the scene due to the police being on their way. Only for him to be betrayed by his Droogs and to get a glass bottle if milk smashed over his face. The Droogs escape freely while Alex falls to the floor hands in face, with sad sympathetic music on. Again Kubrick is trying to manipulate the audience to feel sympathetic towards the psychotic killer.
