A Clockwork Orange - The Ludivico Technique

In part one of the Ludivico technique Alex has been strapped into a chair with a straight jacket on and his eyes clamped open. The first few films Alex watches enables the spectators to experience violence and view naked women on the screen from Alex's POV. The camera switches to close ups of Alex grinning which informs the spectator that Alex enjoys and takes pleasure watching these films - this makes the audience feel a similar sort of pleasure in watching these films because they have experienced similar crimes and connected with Alex.

In part two of the scene the spectator is punished along with Alex. The spectator is no longer given the opportunity to view the violence and nudity however, they are forced to watch Alex in pain whilst he narrates telling us how ill he feels. This makes the spectator feel a similar way to Alex as we can see the pain he is experiencing due to Kurbricks use of close ups of Alex's face.

In part 3 we are continued to be punished along with Alex as the spectator is further made to watch hate filled and negative imagery such as videos of the Nazi's which at this period of time was the worst thing in all of humanity as it was not much longer after World War 2 took place. The spectator is made to view an extreme close up of Alex's eye which has been clamped open along with having to listen to his screams pleading to stop the music which is Beethoven.
