There were many criticisms that the director of Get Carter, Mike Hodges was commenting on the transition from swinging sixties to a more economically bleak 1970's. During the 1960's and 1970's it was seen as sexual freedom brought by the contraceptive pill brought more liberation to men than women as men were now able to have sex with women without possibly getting them pregnant which meant they could now control women's sexuality.
The scene where Carter has sex with Glenda and then views the sex scene is a perfect example of how women's liberation benefitted men more than women as we know already that Glenda has been used for sexual pleasure by Kinnear and the Fletcher brothers, so her sleeping with Carter is just another person for her to be used by. In addition to this we know that Doreen and Margaret have also done prostitution in the past or are still doing it now.
