Get Carter - The Pill Benefits Men

After Carter and Glenda have had sex, Carter stumbles upon a sex tape involving his nephew Doreen. This scene focuses heavily on how the introduction of the contraceptive pill has benefited men more than it has women. For starters, the chances of this tape existing if the contraceptive pill had not existed would be slim; the females are used by men sexually, and are exploited for money as there is less risk of child birth post-intercourse. As an audience, at this point, we know Doreen as a sensible, well-rounded person, but as a victim; not only has her father been killed in a frankly brutal manner, but she has been forced to talk about it continuously throughout the film. We even hear Carter passively say to her "don't trust boys"; an acknowledgement of how men have tendencies to take advantage of things that (superficially) benefit women. The reason this tape exists is so that Kinear can emotionally attack Carter and, potentially, force him to instigate an attack. This means that Doreen's (and the other women in the video) suffering is only caused to get back at another man. Interestingly, it would appear as though the only reason that Carter is upset is because he considers Doreen as his, albeit in a very different way. He sees this video as himself losing control to Kinear as a result of the exploitation of the pill - the irony of this, of course, is that Carter had just moments ago used the contraceptive pill to his own advantage by sleeping with Glenda. In this way, we see the full extent of selfishness held in this notion - the camera treats Carter as the focus point, rather than the obvious victim, Doreen.
