Get Carter - Shotgun Parade Scene

The scene begins with  high angle of Edna as she lies in bed. It is important to note that this scene, and the entire film for that matter, is shot from Jack Carters perspective. We see the world the way this character does, and view the other characters within the film through Carters eyes. The high angle, rather than connoting a character as weak and submissive as it would be typically used, is actually used to refer to Carters character - that being a misogynist whom sees women as lesser. This ignorance is subtly pointed out through the blocking of the characters and camera movement. Edna's eye-line shifts downwards before the camera tilts down to reveal that it is Carter himself who lacks power in this world, he is a figure of archaic and patriarchal thinking. Michael Caine's performance in this scene accentuates Carters ignorance, the character keeps his eyes closed as he talks - betraying his ignorance of a changing time, one that liberates women sexually and in the work place.
