Women, Disrespected - Edna making cups of tea (45 mins)

In the film Get Carter we see women are disrespected a lot all throughout the film and we see this presented especially in the scene in which Carter brings back the two men to Edna's Hotel. Edna is an independent woman who owns her own business and yet in this film she is disrespected by Carter various times in her own home and she stands for it as women are also shown as obedient and submissive to men. In this scene Edna comes to the door to find Carter with two men, she isn't very happy about it as just a few minutes before Carter was causing trouble just outside her hotel. We see Carter tell the two men to go upstairs into his room without asking permission off Edna and he sarcastically apologises to her. This shows that from the male point of view in this film even the strong independent women aren't as powerful as men and don't need to be respected as much as they don't have the power to do much about it. This carries on as Carter gets into the hotel and Edna tells Carter she will "call the police" and Carter's reply is simply "no you wont". This shows that from Carters point of view her threats mean nothing as she will obey him and won't call the police. Just before this he tells her quite bluntly to make him and the other two men a cup of tea, this clearly shows that he doesn't take her power into consideration.
