Mental illness in film.

The greatest fallacy of mental illness purported by the film industry is that there is a direct link between mental illness and violence. The truth is only a tiny percentage of people living with mental illness are dangerous. Throughout film history, there have been a wide variety of depictions of mental illness. There have been a great number of films that touch on mental illness in either an obvious or more subtle way. Hopefully the films to come will make those of us with mental illness feel well represented, even moved to see our real life struggles on screen. Film is a powerful medium, and if those creating it want to, they can do a lot of good.
