Hollywood becoming creatively defunct.
Bob iger (head of disney) why make a movie which will cost 200 million and might not make the budget back, or create a sequel for a franchise (such as avengers) which will recoup 1billion? and guarantee toy and merchandise sales for months after initial release.
36/40 movies released in 2017 are franchises/remakes adaptions. leaving only 4 original ideas that will make it to cinema screens. Which is still unknown whether they will make even there budget back because people seem to only be interested in franchise movies -(creative capitalism)
Franchises becoming over-saturated such as POTC who's plot is merely identical to the first movie, when compared with the final movie (dead men tell no tales) this shows lack of ideas from the company, who are just trying to milk the series as much as possible. with a rotten tomatoes rating of 29% this really does show how the franchises as ran out of ideas after the original trilogy.
"Some of the tent poles are just not as strong this year," 20th Century Fox head of domestic distribution Chris Aronson says. "Pirates of the Caribbean? It's the fifth one. Transformers? It's the fifth one." this quote from www.hollywoodstories.com/pages/hollyArticles.htm shows that film audiences are becoming slightly frustrated with lack of creativity or even
lack of change in film to film, the story lines are very similar. another criticism was of Star wars The Force Awakens. who some critics on Reddit.com
accused it of being a 'complete remake, with a few minor twists' although this film made over 2billion dollars, it may have a similar fait to transformers who's franchises has gone 'stale'
'The only original blockbuster to be gathering much word-of-mouth buzz is Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk'
This quote from a writer at dailymercury.com shows that its hard to create a Buzz about movies
that aren't franchise anymore and this could be due to the fact of a star power of director Christopher nolan, who many people recognise due to his successful batman trilogy.

more examples of unsuccessful remakes from a franchises are Baywatch the mummy who both scored lower than 20% on critic site rotten tomatoes who described the both as 'dull' and
a 'blunder to the original' another example is Ghost Busters (2016) although it did recoup triple its budget, critics slammed its disrespect to the original and said a remake was 'unnecessary'
this again shows how the lack of creativity in hollywood is becoming a problem for franchises, even if they are 'past there due date'
Pirates of the Caribbean- 'its pleasures are so meagre, its delight in its own intensions so forced and false, that it becomes almost the exact opposite of entertainment' A.O Scott, NY Times.
