Reflective analysis My Belief

Reflective analysis
My role in making this film was that I had to do all the editing to make sure the film was as smooth as possible but also that it made people have a certain feeling about each section. The name of our film is My Belief the film is a short story about how a person from a young age believes he is able to see Aliens and as years go past he does not lose this belief. But he as he gets older more of his family start to discover the belief that he has and they think he is starting to go crazy the aliens also discover he knows about their existence so they try to stop James the protagonist from reviling their existence so take desperate measures to stop him.
In the first couple of shots we cut between very quickly and the reason we wanted to do this so that the audience where able to feel the intensity in the scene and the panicking state our protagonist is in we also don’t want the audience to know why he is panicking we wanted to keep that unclear till we got into the room because we wanted to keep the audience thinking what he is running away from but also to keep them disorientated and to get them involved with the film from the starting blocks.
In another scene we have the two scientists walking up the stairs but we have a lot of shots that we cut between quite fast and the reason it is edited like this is to make sure that the scene of the two scientists walking up the stairs is not a boring scene so that we are able to keep the attention of the audience. Also we wanted to again disorientate the audience giving it a connection to the scene at the house but also the use of the disorientation makes the audience think that something weird and evil might be going on with the scientists and the use of this editing also shows us that there is something mysterious going on but with the way the editing is done we never let the audience know what it is to keep them thinking.
In the scene where the protagonist James think he sees an alien while walking through the park we wanted to make the scene seem like it could be normal with no danger but ultimately by the end of the scene let the audience know about the danger. So that is why at the start of the scene we cut between the shots slowly to give the audience the sense that this scene is going to be normal and that it might not involve any aliens of sort. But when James thinks he sees an alien siting on a bench he is walking by we start to increase the frequency of the shots making the cuts between the shots faster making the scene more frantic letting them know that James is starting to get more nervous and is starting to panic it also lets the audience know that the girl on the bench could be a danger to James. When James starts to run we have a lot of different cuts to make James look like his running is quite fast and that he is running as fast as he can to get away from the girl who is the potential danger. The fast cuts of James running is to also making the scene visually pleasing for the audience because if they were just given one long medium shot or long shot the scene would be quite boring so if you have lots of cuts with lots of shots the audience are never usually bored as long as it is done right.
In conclusion I believe our team worked well together to make a good project we all had our individual roles and everyone I believe performed at the their roles extremely well. Not only that though we all enjoyed it a lot which I beliveved help with the project as we where more enthusisatsic meaning we where all give our poinions giving us a wide variety of options which ultimately gave us a very good film. We all talked about the film after we finished as we all agreed we needed to get more organised next time we make a film so that we can ultimately have more time to film so that we could make the film even better as everytime we went out we would not get a lot of filming done as the sun would go donw about half an hour after we went out. Also we agreed to think of a project that was not so sophisticated because we struggled to fit the story into a 3-5 minute timeframe we had meaning that in some parts of the film the story did not make as much sense as it coould of been.
