When Alex returns to his original self at the end of the
film, the spectator is rewarded along with him because we are aligned with him
and we have suffered as he did through his punishment because we were denied
the pleasure he felt while committing violent acts. The music becomes uplifting
when he is cured and the depiction of violence returns to what it was at the
start of the film. We as the spectator are happy for Alex because he is no
longer suffering and therefore, neither are we because we are able to take
enjoyment from the acts he is committing, like we did at the beginning of the
film. Both we and Alex are returned to the Male Gaze.
