Representations of men

The men in Get Carter are represented as very pig-ish and brutish. This is shown to the audience within the first minute of the film. In this scene we see Carter and his friends watching some sort of adult movie and discussing it wit each other as if it is normal to do so. This tells us that the men having little or no morals at all and that they clearly do no respect women. Men are also represented as very active in the film. By this I mean that they are key to the story and drive the narrative. We know this because every important character in the film is male and the plot is driven forward by Carter killing other men and ultimately leading to his death (another important scene in the film, where another man kills him)

Representations of women

Women are represented as very passive in Get Carter. We know this because they are often very throw away characters and aren’t very key to the plot and are mainly there to either be killed of to be objectified. This is reinforced in a scene were Carter tells the woman he is living with to make them tea and that she wont call the police to which she agrees, this also represents women as easily controlled. Women are also represented as sexual objects during the film. This is portrayed to the audience through the lack of clothing that the women wear in the film and also that once Cart has slept with a woman they then cease to appear in the film.
