the next shot is of the news crew pulling
What role do the Media play in La Haine?
The 'Media Scene' starts with a shot of the three men sitting in the playground in silence. the playground is on a lowered piece of land with walls and railings rising up around it. a few moments after the scene begins, there is a quick edit - a white flash - which leads into an almost exact copy of the scene that they left. this shows that time has passed, emphasising their boredom that is their lives. this time Said, Hubert and Vinz are talking about a girl who Said 'supposedly' spent the night with. This scene shows them to be simply sitting around and talking. Vinz is rolling up a joint. this could be a hint at two possible things, one, that it is simply a show of youth and 'fitting in', or it could be about abusing drugs when out of work, giving negative connotations to those who believe that those without work are lay-a-bouts. the shot tracks slowly into Viz. This reduces the pace of the scene causing the boring aspect of their life to be emphasised once again. several younger teenagers can be seen playing around on the climbing frames in the play area. this is reminiscent of a zoo in which the animals jump around and hang from ropes (especially monkeys).
