Hunger Games Film Review

Plot

In the future a very wealthy city rules over the rest of the nation (the Capital) after winning a war and the rest if North America is split into districts, each district specialised in a different thing such as herbs or technology they do this so the goods can be imported to the Capital. Each year one girl and one boy is selected from every district and they are forced to fight to the death in the hunger games, this year Katniss Everdeen (Jenifer Laurence) changes everything.

Review

The Hunger Games is the first film in its series to be adapted from the novel. As all movies adapted from novels there are many clear differences however the director (Gary Ross) adapted this beautifully and due to this there is no needed outside research to fully understand the plot. However I would recommend reading the book also as it brings a lot to the movie making it a more enjoyable movie experience. Also you have to credit the director since movie adaptations tend to just be all action and stay away from the story element, where the director doesn’t do this they keep the key elements although cutting corners where ever needed mainly due to budget reasons. Many people say that The Hunger Games is just a watered down less violent version of the Chinese hit Battle Royal, I personally can see the resemblance although the movie has clear differences. Jenifer Laurence is most known for her work in the Silver Linings Playbook, she is a renounced actress although not my first choice for an arena based battle movie, although I was surprised. She fit the role really well building character and emotion as the story progressed, due to this I have a lot more respect for her and thankfulness for Gary Ross for seeing the survivor in her.

Verdict

The movie is a well-known blockbuster by the director Garry Ross and I can see why, it is a great movie with action, romance and much more. The film has great costume design and acting choices making it a much watch for our generation.
