The Historical Perspective
When studying film we must be aware of the historical context in which the film was made.
For example, Universal's Dracula from 1933 may seem tame or even comedic now, but upon it's original release it scarred audiences like no other film before it.
Since then we have become much more accustomed to seeing violence images and gory deaths in horror films and as a result filmmakers must continually push boundaries to keep up with audience tastes.
