How important are film franchises for producers and audiences?

I believe that film franchises are very important to for producers and audiences, I believe that if there weren’t a existing franchise that not as many films would be as successful as they would have done originally. Harry potter started of from a book by J.K Rowling this shows that it already had an existing fan base which than had carried on to the films, harry potter’s cast was not famous before they went on the film which shows that it wasn’t about the stars and it was more about the synergy first it started with the books than it became the film it than grew rapidly, It went to games merchandise to toys this is what gave them there popularity of the film. This shows how successful franchises are to the producers and the audience, Film franchises keep the thought of the film or characters in there head like when harry potter came out they had this new urge for wands and they where sold in all of the toy shops it shows that franchises are very important to the audience because this brings in their fans, When a child buys a new wand from the toy store they see the harry potter name and logo this than makes them think harry potter and they want to see how the wands are used in Harry Potter so it reinforces them to watch the films.

Alien is another massive successful when it first came out in 1979 which was just after the star wars was released they knew new ideas could potentially be successful so they thought of the idea of science fiction and horror in the alien film it was new to the audiences it was new to the producers it was a film that they took a risk on. Due to the new genre film being released they had all these new audiences coming to watch the film and it was different to all the other films this was why it was so successful. They than brought out a sequel in 1986 which was even more successful than the first but instead of one alien but an army of aliens this than became an science fiction icon they brought action in the film this gave the audiences new cinematic experiences which brought more people to the cinema to see this amazing sequel. This shows that the Film franchise can be important because Aliens wouldn’t have been as successful if  Alien wasn’t that good because they had this existing fan base the Film franchise was always reminding them of the alien they would have brought out figurines and mugs, pens and Pc games this shows they wanted people to be reminded of the alien this is to reawaken them to the sequel . They left Alien open for a sequel if the film was successful for them to carry on with the story and as it shows there was a total of 7 films in this franchise this shows that there was a constant reminder of the alien with games comics, books. This shows that Synergy was relevant in the film franchise. This shows that it was important for the producer as well to show they can also keep the fans where they want them and keep them all in the alien vision. The Alien was this new creature never seen before it was the start of the popularity of the science fiction genre, the alien had a lack of eyes a sharp tail and it hid in the shadows of people this is the intension that people wanted and kept people at the edges of their seats. Than they created alien 3 which was not as successful as the first two people was hoping it to be the same as aliens but it lacked the amount of alien it included one which the viewers didn’t want to see this shows that the franchise is important and that one mistake could wreak the whole franchise.

I also disagree that franchise are not as important Films could still be popular with the stars and book this shows that you can not just have a fan base on the synergy and the film franchise but also on the story and the star, Stars will have there ups and downs and will be followed in newspapers and magazines this shows that this is also a way to get there audience like Iron man started of with Robert Downey Jr which he was a big star and he was in the magazines that he was put in prison he was addicted to drugs and his proves that you don’t need a franchise to make the film important but also you can have the star being the main attraction of the film, Iron man has now got its third film on the way this shows that the film has helped it get to where he is today throughout his background life.

The dark knight trilogy has started from not many known actors in this film but it also having its synergy that has kept the audience and created its film franchise, Even though the dark knight trilogy has been very successful it started from the director Christopher Nolan this shows that it just isn’t the film franchise that has made the important but also the actor, producer and director.

In conclusion I believe that Film franchises are more important to help the company get more money and fans to see them in the cinema as well as by their films on DVD and Blu-ray. The merchandise will help create the film franchise to become famous iron man has got masks and hand laser which shows that Film franchise is the most important to the audience and the producer because it gives them stuff to work with like expectancies.jordan.abernethy
