Through marketing, film studios attempt to control the 'perception' of a film in the public mind. They use posters, trailers, digital technologies (websites, social media etc) to create and then appeal to audience expectations and ultimately, persuade audience to pay and see their film.
Some films do this better than others.
This lesson will look at how publicity (media not under the control of the studios) can make or break a film at the box office and how, when done correctly, marketing can make a film the most successful of all time.
We will also look at how poor marketing can end a films chances of success even before it has been released... regardless of the films quality.
