Analysis of Fellowship of the Rings: Ring Wraith Scene

The low angle wide shot that open the ring wraith scene shows and emphasises the little space that the hobbits have, as well as the space above for the Ring Wraith before it enters. The audience are positioned in a way that makes us fear for the well being of Frodo and his friends.

In the following shot we see the Ring Wraith for the first time, it is situated above the hobbit's who are weak and powerless. The shot also becomes darker to embody the evil and darkness it possesses and brings everywhere. The Ring Wraith is dresses in black metal armour which highlights it's dark spirit and tough exterior.

Frodo's close up allows the audience to see his emotion and have empathy, the frame of the shot focuses on Frodo's fear. We get the impression he is not only trapped physically but mentally because there is not escape.

In addition we see that the Ring Wraith has no face only a black space, this gives mystery and the fear of the unknown; the audience don't know who or what the Ring Wraith is.
The audience can spot terror easily in the high angle shot as it looks down on a hidden Frodo. It depicts his anxiety at not knowing the true identity of the thing that is hunting him.
