Godfather Analysis

The scene begins with a close up of Michael, Were can hear the train noise in the background, and get the feeling that it is amplified inside his head because of how loud and immense the noise is, but it doesn't seem to be affecting anybody else, this could show that Michael is really on edge and uncertain about the task in hand and so his head is really battered and unsure.

Inside the restaurant every noise is amplified and has a short echo noise to it, this implies that the tension within the restaurant is of an unstable state, almost like you could cut it with a knife. Every footstep, Touch of crockery, and the popping of the cork is very loud and easy to hear. Maybe these noises are non diegetic and are actually inside Michael head, forcing him into a decision to kill Sollozzo. When Michael and Sollozzo speak in Italian, with no subtitles, it shoes that this part is irrelevant because Michael has already possibly came to a decision that he is going to kill Sollozzo, this part is doesn't mean anything because he is already dead in Michaels eyes. As michael enters the toilet,  and picks jus the gun the train notes build and build, and it feels like he needs to make them stop, they increasing get louder and louder as he sits back down, and the only way to make them stop would be to kill Sollozzo, and as soon as the bullet enters his head, the noises stop, almost like it is a weight lifted off his shoulders, and the noises inside his head drove jim to that decision, so maybe it wasn't even Michael final choice to kill Sollozzo just he wanted the noises to stop. The stress of making a decision has gone when the noises finally disappear. This implies that the noises made the decision easier. Michael then looks at the gun and drops its and runs from the restaurant, almost like he was thinking what he had done maybe wasn't the best decision because he isn't that type of person, he is a war hero, and to him that doesn't feel right, the music as he does this is almost like a villains music and quite a dark sound, which Michael is the complete opposite of because he is a hero.
