The stylistic choices made by filmmakers define not just the look but also the meaning of a film. How far is this true for the films you have studies for this topic?
For La Haine this statement is very true as throughout the film the stylistic choices define but also add meaning to the film. For example, in the projects. During the time in the projects the camera is free flowing and is only made up of a small amount of shots. This provides the information that the trio (Vinz, Said and Hubert) feel safer and more free in the projects. Throughout the scenes there is never non diegetic sound or music highlighting that this is a realistic place and is not being romanticised in any way. When Said and Vinz are walking to a building in one of the project scenes the camera starts off racing them and is steady, not hand held. But as the scene progresses the camera becomes static as the duo walk away. The duo are position in front of the building with not much surrounding them. The wide framing gives the illusion that they both have freedom whereas we soon realise that they are only free within the projects.
When they meet up with Hubert, the shot after starts with three police officers walking down an alley way in the projects, and also the trio in front of then . The framing of scene is cramped and presents it as being claustraphobic.
