The scene initially starts with an ominous, non-diegetic sound until Michael Corleone walks into 'Louis' with a diegetic train and car noise's as he walks into the restaurant, this sound is often heard throughout this scene. Theres is diegetic music played in the background which creates intensity. As Michael, Sollozzo and McCluskey are sat down, a waiter begins to open up a bottle which replicates the shooting of Sollozzo as their is a mixture of tension until the bottle popped such like the gun.
For the majority of this scene, Michael and Sollozzo speak in Italian American which creates curiosity for the audience however, the film writer would of done this as it doesn't matter what they say since Sollozzo gets shot in the end.
Diegetic sound is also used in this as there are many things that russle throughout this scene like the trays walking past them and the train that runs past them. most of these can foreshadow whats about to happen since all the noises come to a suddern stop just like the gun, the sound effects are mostly exaggorated in this and may make the audience jump frequently as most of the sounds happen suddenly and since their is no background sound, the sound is more harsh like the footsteps and clatter of the cutlery.
Throughout this scene we are kept in the dark, as there is no subtitles when they speak a different language, we don't know wether Michael is going to shoot Sollozzo etc until Michael goes into the the bathroom.
